Our 3rd Edition Outreach took place on June 19th, 2024, at State Primary School, Okoro-nu-odo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, themed: “The Knowledge of God.” Before the outreach, our Port Harcourt State Coordinator visited the school to finalize preparations, and what she encountered stirred something deep within us.
The school leadership opened up about the heartbreaking realities many of the children face daily; pupils without writing materials, some without underwear, and one unforgettable story of a nursery child who fainted from hunger. Upon investigation, they discovered the child hadn’t eaten in days. His mother, trying to make ends meet by selling sachet water in the market, had only ₦300 to her name. The school stepped in to cover the child’s medical expenses, just as they’ve done for several others.
It was clear that this wasn’t just another outreach. It was a divine assignment. We knew that The Menora City Initiative (TMC), formerly known as the Foundation of Light Outreach (FOLO), couldn’t stop at just preaching; so, we went not only with the gospel message but also with gifts that could meet their real, present needs.
When we arrived at the school, we were warmly welcomed by both the staff and students. The joy on their faces was genuine, and the atmosphere was open and hungry for knowledge, for hope, for love. We taught them what it means to truly know God, not just in theory, but in relationship. After that, we distributed Bibles, notebooks, pencils, pens, sharpeners, erasers, socks, and other essentials, simple things that meant the world to them.
Seeing their joy reminded us that these resources are more than just items; they are symbols of love and answers to silent prayers.
